The NEPFCA became the first community partner to team up with Sports Strategies through the Bruschi Backer Sack Stroke Campaign benefiting Tedy’s Team on November 8, 2009. Chris Seufert, Club President, board representatives, and 80 club members (150 total club members) watched the Patriots beat the Miami Dolphins at Toso’s Bar and Grill, Club Headquarters for the NEPFCA!
Sports Strategies Executive Director, Don Proulx, Jr., was introduced and addressed the members about the campaign to sack stroke and help assist Tedy at the line of scrimmage in raising awareness of and fighting stroke. One hundred and fifty reminder bands were distributed to Chris Seufert and Scott Holt for all active club members. In addition, $300.00 was raised in this initial kick-off of the Bruschi Backer Sack Stroke Reminder Bands Campaign.
Tedy Bruschi suffered a stroke at the age of 31, just weeks after winning his third Super Bowl and days after returning from playing in the Pro Bowl in Hawaii. While recovering Tedy committed himself to being an advocate, spokesperson, and inspiration for stroke survivors. Tedy asked the American Heart Association to help him create “Tedy’s Team” to raise awareness and help fight stroke. In addition to dollars being raised, an equally important issue for Tedy’s Team is to increase awareness of stroke and recognize its warning signs.
The support of The NEPFCA, as a community partner, will help encourage other New England Patriot Fan Clubs to get in the game and become “Bruschi Backers” and help Sack Stroke! Tedy Bruschi is a champion both on the field and off. He overcame great odds in his football career and in his personal encounter with stroke. You too can be a champion to anyone who has faced or will face the debilitating effects of stroke. No matter how you choose to support Tedy’s Team, the important thing is that you make the choice to join the fight against stroke!
